Grandmaster DeBuc was instrumental in creating the Temple Dojo in Sunrise and will now probably be on his way to other things. We do not know of him ever being defeated in battle, and 90% of his fights have been real-world. We were hoping he would remain with us after creating the Temple Dojo, and receiving his 9 th Dan, but it appears pressing circumstances have taken him in another direction, we wish him well.

As of February 2025, it is widely recognized that we have led the global karate community in competitive excellence for years.
I am pleased to announce that Renshi David Bavaresco is now our Director of Competition, alongside his wife, Paoula Bavaresco, who will serve as Head of the Competitive Team. Both have consistently demonstrated outstanding performance in tournaments.
Traditionally, under Grandmaster DeBuc, our organization accepted students by referral and did not seek public recognition for its achievements. However, as of December 2024, upon becoming CEO of the Double Dragon Institute, I have modernized this approach.

Hanshi DeBuc is a highly esteemed grandmaster and the visionary Founder of Double Dragon Goju-Ryu Karate-do, an internationally recognized martial arts institution dedicated to the highest standards of discipline, technique, and philosophy. With an illustrious career spanning nearly five decades, he has personally trained and mentored over 45 Black Belts, from Shodan (1st Dan) to Kudan (9th Dan), producing elite martial artists who continue to uphold the traditions of Goju-Ryu worldwide.
In 1996, he officially established the Double Dragon Institute, alongside Hanshi Yarid, following decades of rigorous training and instruction since 1974. Under his leadership, the institute has grown into a globally respected organization, operating premier schools across the United States, including Boston, Cape Cod, Nantucket, Washington, D.C., Vienna (VA), Florida, and Puerto Rico. The institute has also extended its reach internationally, with certified Black Belt instructors continuing the legacy as far as Alaska. For over 29 years, the Double Dragon Institute has maintained its status as a registered and highly esteemed organization, recognized by Dun & Bradstreet, the world’s foremost business rating authority.
Beyond his unparalleled expertise in martial arts, Hanshi DeBuc is also an accomplished Airline Captain, with over 20,000 flight hours as a Pilot in Command (PIC). His ability to maintain precision, discipline, and leadership at the highest levels—both in the dojo and in the cockpit—solidifies his reputation as a master of both martial and technical excellence.

Grandmaster Frederick Yarid, M.D. 10th Dan
Hanshi Dr. Yarid was to be the Co-Founder of the Double Dragon Katate Institute. He is a distinguished leader in the medical fields. He has served as an officer in multiple branches of the U.S. Armed Forces and continues to contribute as a Reservist, periodically undertaking active service with the U.S. Navy.
In addition to his military service, Dr. Yarid operates a private medical practice also for many years until Janurare 2025 he was serving on the Board of Directors of the Double Dragon Institute. He is a graduate of the University of Michigan Medical School and completed his residency training at Washington Hospital in Washington, D.C.
Dr. Yarid’s dedication to service, leadership, and professional excellence is reflected in his commitment to both medicine and martial arts. We expect him if he gets the chance to begin his own branch of Karate and is not directly able to assist is any major way with the creation of the Double Dragon Temple Dojo.
Grandmaster Nigel Andrew DeBuc 9th Dan.

Grandmaster Nigel Andrew DeBuc is a revered figure in the martial arts world, embodying over five decades of dedication, mastery, and leadership. Promoted to 9th Dan in April 2024, he continues to serve as a guiding force in the evolution and preservation of traditional Goju-Ryu Karate.
A key leader within the Double Dragon Karate Institute, Grandmaster DeBuc has held several esteemed positions throughout his career. He served as Regional Director for over a decade, overseeing the institute’s development until January 2024. Additionally, he was the Former Regional Director for Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Virginia, and Spain, where he played an instrumental role in expanding and strengthening the institute’s global presence.
Grandmaster DeBuc was honored for passing the Double Dragon Optional Traditional Black Belt Test in August 1978, a prestigious recognition dedicated to the legacy of Master Tony Chisolm. His unwavering commitment to martial arts excellence has earned him the title of 6th Dan Very High-Level Master, Shihan, DDI-WSGKO, as well as a Green Belt in Cuong-Nhu, showcasing his versatility across multiple disciplines.
A lifelong advocate for continuous learning, Grandmaster DeBuc attended the International Black Belt Conference in Miami on July 19, 2002, further solidifying his expertise. Currently residing in Naples, Florida, he remains a central figure in the martial arts community, mentoring the next generation of practitioners and upholding the time-honored traditions of the Double Dragon Karate Institute.

Renshi Luis Rodriguez, 5th Dan, was instrumental in the development of the Double Dragon Goju-Ryu Karate-do Temple Dojo.
As the Head of Security and Director of Breaking Training, his expertise in power delivery and breaking techniques has been evident since his early years as a student.
He has also serves as the personal bodyguard to Grandmaster DeBuc and the entire Double Dragon Institute.
Beyond martial arts, Renshi Luis is a distinguished professional, serving as a Manager of Software Development for a leading national healthcare organization. In addition, he is an accomplished professional musician, with expertise in playing, writing, recording, and composing music.

A student at American Heritage Schools, Plantation Campus, he began his karate training at the remarkable age of three. Now, he stands on the threshold of earning his 4th Dan in Goju-Ryu Karate-do, an achievement that reflects his relentless pursuit of mastery.
As Director of Testing Standards at the Double Dragon Institute, Sensei DeBuc has played a pivotal role in upholding the integrity of rank examinations. He ensures that every student meets the rigorous technical and philosophical standards demanded by the art. His commitment to maintaining the highest level of excellence will shape the next generation of martial artists.
At just 15 years old, Sensei DeBuc made history as the youngest 2nd Degree Black Belt ever issued in Double Dragon Goju-Ryu Karate, a rank sanctioned by multiple Grandmasters in recognition of his extraordinary skill and dedication. His achievements extend far beyond the dojo—he is an honor student excelling in advanced coursework while maintaining an intense training and leadership schedule.
Beyond martial arts, Sensei DeBuc is a force for change. As the youngest spokesperson for the Alzheimer’s Association, he has addressed audiences at major events, met with state representatives in Tallahassee, and traveled to Washington, D.C., to advocate before U.S. senators and congressmen. His unwavering dedication to this cause reflects his deep sense of responsibility and leadership.
A standout athlete, Sensei DeBuc is also regarded as one of the top young baseball catchers, recognized by his coaches for his elite skill and determination. With aspirations of playing professionally, he continues to push himself to new heights, balancing academic excellence, martial arts mastery, advocacy, and elite-level athletics.

For years, the Double Dragon Institute has competed anonymously with the WKC & WKF, choosing not to seek recognition. However, we are now proud to reveal that Renshi David Bavaresco is one of our students. His numerous achievements include:

His additional titles and accomplishments have remained confidential at the request of Renshi Bavaresco and Grandmaster DeBuc. This announcement was officially made at the Tiger and Crane Organization’s Black Belt Only meeting in February 2025, before our esteemed Grandmasters and over fifty Black Belts.
